Beer drinking appears to have a negative impact on economic growth: A 1 gallon increase in per-capita beer consumption is associated with a 0.48 percentage point decrease in per-capita personal-income growth, according to a study of more than 30 years of data by Resul Cesur of the University of Connecticut and Inas Rashad Kelly of the City University of New York.
